Good Luck is Appropriate Timely Behaviour, leading to fortunate results.
By Birgit Adelborg
In the former Soviet Union religion and superstition were not encouraged, comrades were encouraged to behave for the benefit of the greater good and build a healthier, happier more prosperous society. To a suprising extent these attitudes worked, and considering the difficult times of the Soviet experiment and the size of the country there is much to admire. Let's take a few lessons from the Russians and apply them in our own lives for just one week and see how we improve our fortune and contentment: Each morning on the way to work, or school, or the shops, catch the eye of all on-comers, smile, nod and say "Good Morning." Deliberately go into a local church or centre each day and put a small contribution into the collection box. That's it, just give and leave. You may also nod, smile and say "Good Morning" to anyone around there! Each day make sure you make one sincere compliment to someone you work with or meet or in the shop. Just a swift "I really like that sweater you're wearing" or "You're looking very healthy and fit today..." etc. In return for any service, a door being opened for you, an elevator button being pressed, your coffee being served...respond with grace saying " that's very kind, thankyou very much," or "I really appreciate that, many thanks." Practice saying it clearly and with clear conviction. Each day pick up at least five pieces of litter from the street and bin them. If you go to work, school or go to a place each day, once a week take in a tray of strawberries, or doughnuts etc and share them around casually. Practice this behaviour for one week and make note of your actions and the change in the general behaviour of others towards you. Practice for one month and compare your lifestyle to that before you started.
